Overview | What is Mounjaro® (tirzepatide) | Eligibility | How it works | Consultation at The Bombay Skin Clinic | Cost structure of Mounjaro® | Why choose us

At The Bombay Skin Clinic in Mumbai, we do not offer “just Mounjaro® injections.” We offer a structured, medically supervised weight loss program where tirzepatide (Mounjaro®) is used in carefully selected patients as a part of a larger plan.

Our focus is always your well-being first, weight loss second. Before any injection is even considered, we work on your health foundation, design your diet and lifestyle support, and plan how to protect your skin, face and body during and after weight loss. Only when this base is in place do we look at whether a micro-dosed Mounjaro® protocol is right for you.

What is Mounjaro® (tirzepatide) and how is it used for weight loss and diabetes in India?

Mounjaro® is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once weekly injectable medicine originally developed to help adults with type 2 diabetes improve blood sugar control. It acts on two natural gut hormones and has also shown strong weight loss effects in large international trials when combined with lifestyle measures.[1,2]

In India, tirzepatide is approved for type 2 diabetes. Use in people with obesity or overweight without diabetes is evolving and usually planned by diabetologists and obesity specialists, following current guidelines and local regulations.[3,4] At The Bombay Skin Clinic, we never see Mounjaro® as a stand-alone quick solution. We see it as one possible tool inside a broader medical and aesthetic weight management plan.

Key benefits of Mounjaro® injections for suitable patients

When used in the right person, at the right dose, and inside a structured program, Mounjaro® injections in Mumbai can offer several potential advantages.

  • Support gradual, clinically meaningful weight loss when combined with diet, movement and behaviour support, as shown in major trials.[1,2]
  • Improve blood sugar control and insulin resistance in people with type 2 diabetes or prediabetes, with positive effects on some heart and metabolic risk markers.[3,5]
  • Reduce appetite and cravings, making it easier to stick to smaller portions and healthier food choices.
  • Offer once weekly dosing, which many busy patients find more practical than multiple daily tablets.
  • Fit into a holistic plan that also looks after your skin, hair, face shape and body contour as your weight changes.

These potential benefits are not automatic. They depend on correct screening, careful dosing, regular follow up and a serious commitment to lifestyle change. Getting “weight loss shots” from a chemist or generic clinic without such support is not the same as joining a supervised Mounjaro® program.

Who is Mounjaro® suitable for – and who should avoid this injection?

Good candidates for Mounjaro®-supported medical weight loss

At The Bombay Skin Clinic, we usually consider a Mounjaro®-based weight loss program only after a full assessment. You may be a candidate if you:

  • Have obesity or overweight with a raised body mass index and have not achieved adequate results with lifestyle changes alone.
  • Have related problems such as type 2 diabetes, prediabetes, fatty liver, PCOS-linked weight gain, raised cholesterol or high blood pressure, where guidelines support medical weight loss as an option.[4,5]
  • Are willing to work on diet, movement, sleep and stress alongside injections, not instead of them.
  • Can attend regular check-ups, blood tests and body measurements, and are comfortable with a weekly subcutaneous injection after training.

Eligibility is always finalised in coordination with Dr. Batul Patel. Our team of doctors and therapists then layers your skin, hair and body plan on top of this medical backbone.

When we may advise other options instead of Mounjaro®

There are many situations where Mounjaro® is not the right choice and we will suggest other options. This may be the case if you:

  • Have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2, as tirzepatide carries a boxed warning about thyroid C cell tumours in animal studies.[3,6]
  • Have had pancreatitis, certain severe digestive diseases or significant gallbladder problems in the past.[3,6]
  • Are pregnant, planning pregnancy soon or breastfeeding, where these medicines are generally avoided.
  • Have untreated eating disorders, severe depression or substance misuse, which need separate specialist care first.
  • Are on certain diabetes medicine combinations that raise the risk of low blood sugar.[3]

Special situations: PCOS, fatty liver, post-pregnancy weight gain and more

Many Mumbai patients ask whether they can use Mounjaro® for specific conditions.

  • PCOS and insulin resistance: Some women with PCOS, raised weight and insulin resistance may benefit from GLP-1 and related medicines as part of a broader hormonal and metabolic plan.[4,5]
  • Fatty liver: Controlled weight reduction, whether through lifestyle or supported by medicines, can improve certain liver markers.
  • Post-pregnancy weight gain: During pregnancy and breastfeeding we avoid medicines like tirzepatide. After that, decisions are made on a case by case basis, with emphasis on gentle and sustainable change.

In all these cases, Mounjaro®, if used, is a supportive option inside a larger medical plan, not a one-step solution.

How Mounjaro® (tirzepatide) works in the body to support weight loss

GLP-1 and GIP: how these gut hormones affect appetite and sugar control

Tirzepatide belongs to a newer class called dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonists. This means it activates the same receptors as two natural gut hormones: glucose dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon like peptide 1 (GLP-1).[3,6]

These hormones are released after meals and help the body to:

  • Increase insulin release in a glucose dependent way.
  • Reduce sugar production from the liver.
  • Slow stomach emptying so that you feel full for longer.
  • Act on appetite centres in the brain to reduce hunger and cravings.[3,6]

By acting on both GIP and GLP-1 receptors, tirzepatide can produce strong effects on weight and metabolic control in many patients when combined with diet and lifestyle support.[1,2]

Your first Mounjaro® consultation at The Bombay Skin Clinic, Mumbai

What happens at your assessment visit

When you come to The Bombay Skin Clinic to explore a Mounjaro®-based program, we begin with a detailed foundation assessment. This is not a five minute “weigh and inject” visit. Instead, we:

  • Record your medical history, medicines, allergies and previous weight loss attempts in detail.
  • Measure weight, height, body mass index and body composition where available, including fat and muscle estimates.
  • Review your energy levels, sleep, digestion, menstrual history, stress and emotional relationship with food.
  • Map skin, hair and body concerns such as stretch marks, sagging, cellulite, facial hollowing risk and PCOS acne.
  • Understand your work pattern, travel schedule and family responsibilities so that your plan can be realistic.

Only after this first layer is complete do we discuss whether you should be referred for tirzepatide and what other metabolic support you need first.

Tests, reports and health history we usually review

Before adding any injection, we prefer to correct underlying imbalances. With your consent, our doctors may order or review:

  • Blood sugar markers such as fasting glucose, post meal sugars and HbA1c.
  • Liver and kidney function tests, lipid profile and key vitamin and mineral levels.
  • Thyroid and, where relevant, reproductive hormones, especially in PCOS and peri-menopause.
  • Markers of inflammation or other conditions where appropriate.

Addressing vitamin deficiencies, hormonal patterns, gut health and lifestyle triggers often leads to healthier weight improvement even before injections start. For some patients, this optimisation alone can be enough, and we may decide not to use Mounjaro® at all.

Mounjaro® treatment plan at The Bombay Skin Clinic: session schedule, comfort and follow-up

Weekly injection schedule and overall treatment duration

Mounjaro® is given as a once weekly subcutaneous injection, in the abdomen or thigh, on the same day each week. Official product information and guidelines recommend gradual dose escalation, and your assigned doctor decides the exact schedule for you.[3,6]

At The Bombay Skin Clinic, we lean towards a “micro-dosing” style approach. This means we prefer slower, gentler dose changes rather than racing to high doses if your health allows. The aim is to support steady, sustainable weight loss, reduce digestive side effects and avoid sudden aesthetic shifts such as marked facial hollowing or very loose skin.

Most people remain on treatment for several months or more, with regular decision points where our doctors reassess benefits, risks and cost.

What you may feel during and after a Mounjaro® injection

Injections are usually quick and are performed by an assigned doctor. Most patients describe only mild discomfort at the site.

In the first few weeks, you may notice:

  • Mild nausea, especially with heavy or large meals.
  • Earlier fullness and reduced appetite.
  • Change in bowel habits such as mild constipation, loose motions or bloating.
  • Occasional headache or fatigue.
  • Minor redness or soreness at the injection site.[3]

Our micro-dosing style, food guidance and hydration advice are designed to keep these effects manageable. If side effects remain troublesome, your assigned doctor may hold, reduce or stop the dose rather than pushing through at any cost.

Ongoing monitoring, blood tests and review visits

A Mounjaro® program with us is highly structured. Typical follow up includes:

  • Weekly or fortnightly check-ins for weight, waist and symptom review during the initial phase.
  • Periodic blood tests to track sugar control, cholesterol, liver and kidney function and nutritional status.[4,5]
  • Regular skin, face and body assessments to detect early signs of excessive volume loss or laxity.
  • Dietary reviews to ensure you are still meeting protein, micronutrient and fibre needs despite reduced appetite.
  • Planning supportive treatments such as lymphatic drainage, skin tightening or body sculpting if they are appropriate for you.

This level of monitoring is what differentiates a comprehensive Mounjaro®-based weight loss program from an isolated weekly shot.

What results to expect with Mounjaro® – and realistic timelines

Typical weight loss seen in clinical studies and real life

Clinical trials in adults with obesity show that once weekly tirzepatide, combined with lifestyle support, can produce substantial average weight loss over 72 weeks, with higher doses linked to greater mean reductions.[1,2]

In real life, results vary. Some people see steady and significant weight loss, others lose more modestly, and a few respond less than expected even with good adherence. Co-existing conditions, medicines, sleep, stress and food environment all play a role.[4,5]

In our program, we track not only kilograms but also centimetres, blood markers, energy and comfort levels. We avoid promising specific numbers at the start and instead talk about likely ranges and health-focused outcomes.

When you may start to notice changes in weight and health markers

Many patients begin to notice smaller portion sizes and gentle downward movement on the scale within the first few weeks. Others need more time as their body adapts and doses are adjusted.

Blood sugar and some metabolic markers may improve earlier, especially in people with type 2 diabetes or metabolic syndrome.[3,5] We repeat tests at defined intervals so that you can see objective changes on paper, not just on the weighing scale.

Why results vary from person to person

Even with a well-run program, results differ because:

  • Genetics, hormones and gut microbiome differ from person to person.
  • Work stress, sleep, shift timings and travel can affect appetite and adherence.
  • Some medicines, such as steroids or certain psychiatric drugs, make weight loss harder.
  • Some people may need bariatric surgery or higher intensity lifestyle support to reach their targets.[4,5]

Our job is to keep expectations realistic, adjust the plan when life happens, and remind you that the goal is long term health and confidence, not a temporary drop on the scale.

Lifestyle, diet and exercise while you are on Mounjaro®

Eating patterns that work well with GLP-1 / GIP injections

Mounjaro® changes how hungry you feel, but it does not automatically create a healthy diet. Our nutrition partners work with you to build a practical Indian eating plan that may include:

  • Regular meals with plenty of vegetables, lentils, pulses, lean protein and whole grains.
  • Smaller, slower meals to match your reduced appetite and minimise nausea.
  • Limiting sugary drinks, desserts and ultra processed snacks that blunt progress.
  • Ensuring enough protein and micronutrients to protect hair, skin and muscle.
  • Staying well hydrated through water and simple beverages, especially in Mumbai’s climate.

We treat food as a tool for healing and stability, not as punishment. The better your foundation diet, the less you have to rely on higher doses of injections.

Movement and strength training during medical weight loss

Activity remains important even when you are losing weight on injections. We usually recommend:

  • Gentle daily movement such as walking, stretches or light cycling to support metabolism and mood.
  • Basic strength training a few times a week, under guidance, to protect muscle mass and posture.
  • Tailored plans if you have joint, back or heart problems, decided with your orthopaedic surgeon or cardiologist.

We aim for realistic goals that can fit into Mumbai traffic and work hours, not idealised routines that are impossible to maintain.

What happens after stopping Mounjaro®? Maintenance, loose skin and body contouring options

Risk of weight regain and how we plan for maintenance

Studies show that when tirzepatide is stopped, many people regain some of the weight they had lost, especially if lifestyle support is not continued.[2] This is not failure; it simply shows that obesity behaves like a chronic condition rather than a one-time issue.

From day one, we plan for maintenance by:

  • Building habits you can keep even if injections are reduced or stopped.
  • Teaching you how to handle travel, festivals and stress without swinging back to old patterns.
  • Scheduling review visits after tapering, not just during active treatment.

This long-term view helps you understand that Mounjaro® is a phase in your health journey, not the entire journey.

Skin and body changes after major weight loss

Any significant weight loss, whether from lifestyle, injections or surgery, can lead to loose skin, stretch marks, changes in face shape or more visible cellulite. These changes can affect confidence even when you are happy with the scale.

Because The Bombay Skin Clinic is a dermatology and aesthetics-led centre, we are used to managing these transitions gently and safely.

Supportive face, neck and body treatments at The Bombay Skin Clinic

Once your weight has stabilised for a while, our dermatologists may recommend supportive procedures, for example:

  • Non-surgical skin tightening for the face, jawline, neck, abdomen or arms, using suitable technologies.
  • Clinical lymphatic drainage treatments to support circulation, reduce fluid retention and enhance comfort during and after weight loss.
  • Body contouring for resistant pockets of fat that do not respond fully to weight loss.
  • Skin quality treatments to address stretch marks, texture, dullness and pigmentation.

We time these treatments carefully so that they work with your Mounjaro® plan, not against it.

Mounjaro® and body contouring procedures at The Bombay Skin Clinic

It is important not to confuse medical weight loss with body contouring.

  • Mounjaro® acts on systemic weight and metabolism.
  • Body contouring procedures reshape specific areas once your weight is more stable.
  • They complement internal health work but do not replace the need to manage blood sugar, blood pressure and long term metabolic risk.

During consultation, we help you understand where you are on this spectrum so that expectations remain clear.

Why choose The Bombay Skin Clinic in Mumbai for Mounjaro®-supported weight management?

Doctor-led medical weight loss

The Bombay Skin Clinic is a dermatologist-led, multi-location practice with branches at Kemps Corner, Bandra, Andheri West and Chembur. Our founder and medical director, Dr Batul Patel, is an award-winning dermatologist who believes that real transformation comes from harmony—internal balance supported by medical care, and external refinement guided by precision aesthetics.

Advanced diagnostics, technology and safety protocols

We follow standardised protocols for assessment, consent, injection hygiene and emergency readiness. Depending on your program, this may include:

  • Body composition analysis and regular tracking of measurements.
  • Digital records of skin and body changes to guide treatment timing.
  • Strict infection control measures for any injectable and device-based procedures.

Our goal is that you feel medically safe and emotionally supported through every stage of your weight loss journey.

Cost structure of Mounjaro®-based programs at The Bombay Skin Clinic

Instead of charging only per injection, we usually think in terms of a full program. This may include:

  • The dose and duration of tirzepatide prescribed for you.
  • The number of medical consultations and investigations needed during treatment.
  • Optional wellness support.
  • Skin, face and body procedures planned to manage loose skin or contouring needs.

Therefore, the exact cost is finalised after we understand your health and goals.

Investing safely in long-term health, not quick fixes

We encourage you to see this as a health investment. The intention is not rapid, dramatic weight loss at any cost. It is safer, sustainable improvement in your metabolic health and comfort, supported by medical science and aesthetic expertise.

If, after assessment, we feel that Mounjaro® is not a suitable or necessary choice for you, we will explain this clearly and suggest other options rather than trying to “fit” you into a program that does not serve your long term well-being.

Frequently asked questions

How much weight can I lose with Mounjaro® injections?

In major trials, many adults with obesity lost a meaningful percentage of their starting weight on tirzepatide when combined with lifestyle support.[1,2] These numbers are averages from controlled studies, not promises for any individual.

Your personal outcome will depend on your starting health, how your body responds, how long you stay on treatment and how consistently you follow your nutrition and movement plan. During your consultation, we discuss likely ranges and focus on health benefits, not only kilograms.

How long do I need to stay on Mounjaro® for weight loss?

There is no single duration that suits everyone. Trials have followed participants for more than a year, and some studies show that continuing treatment helps maintain weight loss while stopping can lead to partial regain.[2]

Your assigned doctor will review your progress at regular intervals and help you decide when to maintain, taper or stop. We support you with lifestyle and aesthetic planning throughout, so that changes are as safe and stable as possible.

Can I use Mounjaro® only for cosmetic weight loss if I do not have diabetes?

Current obesity guidelines focus on using medicines like tirzepatide in people with obesity or overweight where health risks are present, not for minor or purely cosmetic weight loss.[4,5]

If your weight is in a safer range but you are unhappy with specific areas such as double chin, arms or abdomen, we are more likely to suggest lifestyle support and non-surgical contouring treatments rather than systemic injections.

Can Mounjaro® replace diet and exercise?

No. All major guidelines still place lifestyle at the centre of obesity and diabetes care.[4,5] Mounjaro® can make it easier to eat less and lose weight, but it does not replace the need for healthy food choices, activity, sleep and stress management.

At The Bombay Skin Clinic, a Mounjaro®-based program always includes structured nutrition and movement support. The injection is one part of your journey, not the whole journey.
